Coral acclimation and migration to mesophotic depths

Presenter: Jessica Bellworthy, PhD

Session: 6C - Mesophotic Coral Ecosystems: Lifeboats in the Challenging Future of Coral Reefs?

Location: Salon London

Format: Talk

Previous research has shown us that corals have depth dependent phenotypes, both as adult and as larvae. But how plastic are these phenotypes? Can acclimation enable coral migration to mesophotic depths? We present the results from a reciprocal translocation experiment across depth and a case study of a coral newly migrated to mesophotic reefs.
